Anheuser-Busch Halts Beer Production to Provide Emergency Water for Flood Victims.

An Anheuser-Busch brewery in Georgia has moved from producing cans of beer to churning out cans of water, which will be distributed to those affected by flooding in the Southwest.Anheuser-Busch’s brewery in Cartersville, Georgia, usually ships around 250 trucks of the company’s various beers – including Budweiser and Bud Light – daily. The plant normally does “water runs” like this three times a year, according to 11Alive News, but decided to do it now to help the Red Cross assist people impacted by major flooding.

That’s according to NBC News, which reports that 50,000 cans filled with drinking water will come out of the plant in Cartersville, a facility located about 57 miles from Atlanta. Red Cross spokesman Jordan Scott told NBC that the drinking water was “critical” to relief efforts, and said his organization would be working with Anheuser-Busch to figure out the logistics of distributing the water. (Anheuser-Busch has shipped two thousand cases of the drinking water so far this week.) “Oklahoma and Texas are in an unprecedented situation,” Scott added. In a news release, Anheuser-Busch said it planned to provide “2,156 cases of emergency drinking water — or 51,744 cans.” The company said it had donated “more than 73 million cans of emergency drinking water following natural and other disasters” since 1988. “Relief workers and people in the region are in need of safe, clean drinking water, and Anheuser-Busch is in a unique position to produce and ship large quantities of emergency drinking water,” Peter Kraemer, vice president of Supply for Anheuser-Busch, said in a statement. “Our local distributors help identify those communities most in need, and work with relief organizations such as the American Red Cross to make sure the water gets where it’s needed.”
