KEENE, N.H. (CBS) — Gov. KEENE, N.H. (CBS/AP) — Officials say at least four people have been taken to the hospital after experiencing symptoms of exposure to carbon monoxide Saturday in Keene, New Hampshire. “The change in the gas mixture caused gas with a high Btu content to enter the distribution system,” the company said in a statement released Saturday. “We are currently investigating the root cause of the issue.

Maggie Hassan said she will ask the Public Utilities Commission to open an investigation after gas leaks left four people hospitalized and sent the Keene Fire Department on over a hundred separate carbon monoxide-related calls this weekend. “I urge all residents in the area to continue to stay vigilant and watch for signs of exposure, and if they suspect any issues, to shut off gas appliances and heating systems, evacuate to safety, and call 911,” said Gov. —Liberty Utilities customers in Keene are being warned about the possibility of gas odors and elevated carbon monoxide levels in their homes after a power problem at its Keene plant. Maggie Hassan has called for a full investigation by state officials into the cause of a gas-mixing problem at a utility plant that had firefighters responding to more than 100 calls reporting gas odors.

Liberty Utilities officials say the power problem caused operational issues, and advise anyone who experiences dizziness or headaches to immediately get fresh air. Customers who have had their gas service disconnected or are experiencing other gas service-related problems is asked to call Liberty Utilities at (603) 352-1230.
