How to Change Your Position in Poker

Since the mechanics of different Poker games differ widely, it can be difficult to learn how to take advantage of your position across games. However, assuming you have one game that you prefer to specialize in – as is commonly the case – learning the dynamics of position and how to play your position best takes time and patience. The specifics of what tactics or technique to use in any given position differ widely between games, so there is no hard and fast rule that applies equally to all variations of poker. However, whatever your game is, you can find a lot of information and tips out there, much of which comes from professionals, about how to play each position best and how to integrate this play into your overall game.

The one exception to the rule above is when there is a rank amateur or a maniac playing at the table. If there is someone who plainly has no idea what they are doing, being in the position directly in front of them, or one or two positions behind them can be extremely advantageous. In this case it can be very easy to either call or raise the amateur/maniac and coax him into putting out far more money than he should. Of course in this particular scenario, almost any position is fine if you are a well seasoned experienced player going up against someone that does not really know what they are doing.
