Handicapped bank robber flees with cash in wheelchair.

The unidentified suspect, a black male believed to be in his 20s, cruised into a Santander at 37-10 Broadway in Long Island City and handed the teller a note at around 2 p.m., according to police. Others said the new spin on robbery called the bank’s security into question. “If this guy got away so easily,” said Matthew Basner, 42, of Astoria, “they could use better security.” The crook then darted out of the bank on his wheelchair and fled westbound down Broadway. “We are grateful that no customers or any of our colleagues were injured,” a Santander spokesman said. “We are not commenting any further at this time due to an ongoing investigation.”
