In early trading on Wednesday, shares of Southwest Airlines (LUV) topped the list of the day’s best performing components of the S&P 500 index, trading up 2.1%. The energy sector had been advancing alongside the broader index for the first part of the year until the price of crude fell through a trap door, plunging more than 50% from $107 a barrel in June to $52 by the end of December. Two other components making moves today are Nabors Industries (NBR), trading down 3.3%, and Regeneron Pharmaceuticals (REGN), trading up 2.0% on the day. The video game maker said in the summer it would expand a popular subscription service to international markets, and in the fall it raised its profit forecast for 2015.
